Run for Nepal

Story

A plan hatched on the porch couch one drunken summer evening, Bec and Rach thought that running a half marathon would be a great idea.

On May 17.

That’s less than three weeks away!

We are bloody terrified. No thanks to this article that we stumbled on yesterday, where Steve Moneghetti suggests the Great Ocean Road Marathon is the most challenging course he has ever done. Great choice, us.

Initially we planned to keep our probable early deaths on the Great Ocean Road reasonably quiet, but after the 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Nepal on Saturday night, we had to take the opportunity to raise even a little money for those who have lost everything. In the words of Robert Tickner, CEO of Australian Red Cross: ‘Thousands of people are now confirmed dead in Kathmandu and the death toll is rising. Tibet and India have also reported casualties. In some of the most densely populated areas of Kathmandu, the city is in ruins. Now it’s a case of rescuing those trapped under the rubble, helping the injured and supporting survivors.’

We understand that you may not be able to give much, but if you have any change to spare, please help us and Nepal reach the finish line. We will be donating all proceeds to the Red Cross Appeal which will he helping:

  • emergency relief and recovery assistance
  • water and sanitation, shelter, health, community safety and resilience initiatives
  • sending specialist aid workers to assist in initial assessments, relief, recovery and longer-term disaster management operations
  • supporting Red Cross to prepare for, scale up and deliver relief and recovery services.

We thank you for your generosity and support!

Love Bec and Rachel

Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery

By donating to Red Cross’ Disaster Relief and Recovery, you provide valuable support for Red Cross Emergency Services teams, both staff and volunteers, as they prepare, respond and provide relief to communities during disasters. After an emergency, Red Cross people are still there working with individuals and communities to help recovery. Your support enables us to be active as soon as a situation has occurred and to provide desperately needed help. Whenever you see a Red Cross Emergency Service team in action, your donation has been an important contribution to that team. Visit www.redcross.org.au for more information
